London during the festive season is without doubts one of the most magical places to be in. Since I’m lucky enough to live here, it’s only natural to share some of the most beautiful festive spots with you- hope you enjoy that! And no, Winter Wonderland isn’t one of them! I know, I know..
Covent Garden Market is probably the first place coming to my mind while speaking about impressive Christmas decor- over the years the beautiful mistletoe boughs have become iconic, so has the shiny reindeer, the massive tree.. and there are always lots of people waiting to be photographed on one of the garland-covered swings too.. What I’m trying to say- if you can survive the mad crowds, Covent Garden is pure magic!
There’s no exaggeration in saying that Annabel’s is a London institution; the members-only club is famous of eclectic, over top interiors and an exceptional experience for the lucky guest. Needles to say, their Christmas tree front entrance is one of a kind.
Natural History Museum
Since the building itself is absolutely stunning, the little ice rink with a Christmas tree outside only makes it more popular with both tourists and Londoners at this time of a year. Great spot for a lazy Sunday with a lot of beautifully decorated cafes and restaurants around.
The most popular ice rink in the country is so for a reason- whatever you look at everything is oh-so bloody gorgeous indeed! One thing to keep in mind though- you may be stopped by one of the guards if you take pictures with a professional camera (and what’s considered ‘professional’ is a really relative thing!) as they have a very strict photography policy so it’s probably best to take a shot with your mobile, just to be on the safe side.
I’ve never seen the tree in St James’s before so it was quite a discovery. All the gold/bronze tones look truly magnificent with the backdrop of posh white buildings which perhaps makes it my favourite tree… although,in all honesty, it’s been the 4th time I’m having this thought today!
Two major shopping streets in the city are probably best to visit in the evening to fully experience the beauty of their Christmas lights- massive snowballs and incredible angels. Although the amount of people around makes you promise yourself not to go back for another year. At least.
Oh how I bloody adore the quirky Christmas vibes around Carnaby! Especially this year, when the theme is ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ (to celebrate the film- please tell me you’ve seen it!) with touching lyrics of Queen’s masterpiece hanging over your head. Hashtag: Love.
Walking through this market is like travelling back in time, and its green and red decor couldn’t have been more perfect for Christmas time. With the beautiful christmas tree and cascades of warm lighting it simply feels like a capture from some movie scene and surprisingly, it’s usually not very busy.
Cafes and Restaurants
London’s dining spots do what they can to make your culinary experience super festive with their spectacular Christmas-themed interiors. If you book well in advance or if you’re prepared to wait in what seems like a never-ending queue, go to Dalloway Terrace, Peggy Porschen or have the afternoon tea at The Ritz (which is not only pretty but actually fun and delicious!).
Hope I’ve managed to give you a little glimpse into what my beloved city looks like this time of a year! Have the merriest of Christmases and see you here in the 2019! x
