Chillin` In The Zoo -What Animals Do In The Summer

Last week, between all the crazy meetings, appointments and deadlines I managed to make it to the zoo! I have to say, it was super enjoyable! Although my feet were killing me in Hunter boots while it was about 30 C degrees (you never know with the weather these days!), it was lots of fun, bringing up all the childhood memories. Because of the heat, most of the animals were simply chilling outside. Just look at these guys! I promise, they are not dead corpses, just exhausted flamingos taking a nap…

The elephants were slightly more mobile but then talking about elephants’ mobility you shouldn’t really expect fireworks. Still pretty cute though!

The giraffes were rather fierce, fighting for lunch options…

Unlike this clumsy rhino who decided to take it easy…

While other guys were more into water activities

And a little bison pretzel simply mastered I-don’t-give-a-damn attitude. But when you look like this you know you’ll always be forgiven! Life’s unfair, isn’t it.

My favourite creature, howewer, was a donkey (zonkey?). It was moving around all the time, sniffing people’s clothes, looking for some goodies and although I took dozens of pictures, it’s the only one of a decent quality. But hey, Mr. Donkey looks rather helpless and innocent in this one!

Do you visit a zoo when you travel? What is your favourite animal?

I can't wait for the weather to cool down just a bit and get the kids to the zoo! They love the monkeys!

  • Thank you, Nina! 🙂

  • Nina Ratahinarisoa

great post ! I always love animals and zoo!

  • Hi Lisa, thanks so much for your kind words 🙂 I hear you, being an animal lover myself, I'm not sure what to think on the subject either. It's always best to see exotic animals in their natural environment, but if the zoo is well-kept it can probably save certain species, too- at least that's what I hope for since not everyone would get a chance to admire their beauty otherwise. Pretty controversial thing, I know. Anyway- have a great weekend! x

  • Hey there 🙂 I agree the zoos are quite expensive and since they usually have so many sponsors money shouldn't be the case. I think places like these can be really educational, especially for kids (I'm sure your daughter enjoys it there!) so why not make them available to anyone? P.S. Love the penguins, too, they are adorable 🙂

I absolutely love the pictures! I have mixed thoughts about zoos and animals in captivity, that being said, I love animals!!

  • We have a good Zoo here that we go to sometimes with my daughter but I think we've only ever been to one other one. I find them so expensive! I always love to see the penguins, and meerkats.

  • Thanks for your comment, Mom Jonz! I've never been to Australia, but feeding the kangaroo sounds amazing, no wonder you liked it so much!

  • We usually end up at the zoo when we travel. I really like the kangaroo. Maybe because we took a trip to Australia and was able to feed and pet them. Not just view in an enclosure.

  • Hi Ashley, I have to say, I'm jealous of your sunshine- raining all day in here! Still, fingers crossed for the zoo trip, I'm sure your kids will love it! Mal x

  • London zoo is great too, I bet you both enjoy it, especially if the weather is nice 🙂

My little girl loves zoo. We have annual pass to the London zoo so we do regular visits for a walk and picnic. We have never been to Australia but would love so much to pay the kangaroo visit.
